Right. A few trips to other countries, one to bring home two beautiful kids, and a house move later, and you start to wonder if there’s time to catch up on everything. Right now, no. But in the meantime, I’ll leave you with a couple of interesting reads by Paul Graham. The Word “Hacker” Good […]

In the “thanks for a job well done” category… Snipshot Snipshot is a website that will let you upload a picture and do a few basic photo-editing tasks (like resize, crop, etc.) right in your browser, with quick multi-step undo, and save the results back to your computer. They provide a sample image you can […]

Just came across an interesting article over at Linux for Christians about the potential place for Linux and open source software in general for churches. Worth a read, especially if you’re in a new/growing church or have anything to do with your church’s tech policy.

So I feel like the last two weeks have been an interesting intermix (collision?) between my knowledge and experience in Linux and Windows, or more generally Microsoft-based tech. I work on various projects at work based in Microsoft tech, but my strong preference for base operating system and general work environment is Linux. As such, […]

Spolsky gives the pitch. Basically remote-screen-access customer support, super-easy, through any firewall, over any connection. Sounds pretty slick. I know I have family I might use this with, and I can think of several scenarios at work where this might come in handy.

Lately I’ve been casually following Project Aardvark, the summer-intern-project brainchild of Joel Spolsky. It’s to be open source (GPL, I believe), but they haven’t yet said what exactly it is they’re building, and there’s been all kinds of speculation on that particular point. The last few posts on PA’s site really have me wondering…there’s mention […]

A-post-a-month is just wrong, and I apologize. So much I want to say about random things, as always, and/but life is too crazy, as always, so for now I’ll just drop this random note and hopefully follow up on other stuff later. Came across this writeup by Bob Cringely on Apple’s recently announced plan to […]

I haven’t posted much about this issue yet, but touch-screen voting is something that concerns me deeply. Much has been said in various media and such about the issue, but I recently came across a very good post by Bruce Schneier, a well-regarded expert in the areas of cryptography and computer security, so I thought […]

Firefox, the relatively new browser from the Mozilla project, has reached its 1.0 release. Congratulations and many thanks to those involved. This is really a great piece of software, and it’s evident by the amount of attention it’s gotten in the press as well as the fact that mozilla.org’s web and ftp servers and mirrors […]

I think I’m about ready to move us to a new hosting outfit, which will mean a new blogging package, which will mean a little time to settle in and get comfortable. Should be interesting; hope it doesn’t hurt too much :P. Anyway, changes are a’comin, so stay tuned…
